PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a drop in quality of an output image caused by a gap of scanning position of a light beam from a light emitting element. SOLUTION: A printer engine 106 includes a recording means having a plurality of light emitting elements arranged in the sub-scanning direction and a means for forming an image on a photoconductor by scanning the same region on the photoconductor with a light beam from the recording means a plurality of times in the main scanning direction. An input section 101 inputs the image data of an image to be formed by a printer engine 106. A path division section 104 divides input image data into image data for each of a plurality of times of scanning by using a mask pattern which is formed from the gap of scanning position of a light beam from each light emitting element of a recording means.
