PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealing material and a sealing method which can ensure sufficient sealing properties without melting-flowing out in a high use temperature range, and also, an oxygen separating membrane element equipped with an oxygen separating membrane composed of a perovskite type oxide with a joint part sealed by the sealing material. SOLUTION: This oxygen separating membrane element 10 has an oxygen separating membrane 15 composed of an oxide ceramic of a perovskite structure as an oxygen ionic conductor, formed on a porous base material 14. In addition, at least one ceramic connecting member 12 and 16 is joined with the oxygen separating membrane 15. Further, sealing parts 20a and 20b for shutting off a gas circulation in the joint part, are formed of glass with a leucitic crystal deposited in a glass matrix, in the joint part between the oxygen separating membrane 15 and the connecting members 12 and 16.
