PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document alteration detection program and an alteration detection apparatus, capable of improving accuracy of alteration detection. SOLUTION: A computer is made to execute: a grouping step S12 of grouping pixels included in image data by respective ranges of pixel values; a character recognition step S14 of recognizing characters with each of the image data in the group of the pixels as a processing unit; and an alteration decision step S16 of deciding whether the image data is altered according to processing results in the character recognition step S14.
