PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out emergency braking of a passenger conveyer only by a mechanical mechanism. SOLUTION: In the emergency braking device, a sprocket around which a footstep chain attached with a plurality of footsteps and a sprocket around which a driving chain transmitting power from a motor is wound are used for the passenger conveyer equipped with a gear wheel portion fixed to the same rotating shaft 8. The emergency braking device comprises a ratchet 14 fixed to the rotating shaft 8, a braking hook 17 braking rotations of the ratchet 14, an operation lever 16 supporting the braking hook 17 at a position separated from the ratchet 14, a detecting portion 11 supported to rotate when slacking or breakage occurs in the driving chain 4, and a wire cord 15 coupling the detecting portion 11 and the operation lever 16. When the detecting portion 11 rotates, rotations of the detecting portion 11 is transmitted to the operation lever 16 through the wire cord 15. Therefore, supporting of the rotations of the detecting portion 11 is released, and the braking hook 17 brakes the rotations of the ratchet 14. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
