PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conductivity sensor for a washing machine, an installation construction of the conductivity sensor, and a method for controlling the washing machine, which are capable of controlling the washing machine by calculating a hardness of washing water from measured conductivity of the washing water. SOLUTION: The washing machine includes: a pair of electrodes formed inside an outer tub containing a washing water, in which the pair of electrodes contact with the washing water to measure a conductivity of the washing water; and a control part for controlling the washing machine according to the conductivity of the washing water measured by the electrodes as information.
