PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the combustion of an internal combustion engine at fuel cut return. SOLUTION: When the fuel cut return condition is established while executing fuel cut control (YES in S100), an ECU calculates ignition timing at the fuel cut return (S102), and if an engine water temperature THW is lower than a predetermined water temperature THW(1) (YES in S104) and a fuel cut execution time exceeds a predetermined time T(1) (YES in S106), the ignition timing at the fuel cut return is corrected to the advance angle side (S108) based on the fuel cut execution time and the engine water temperature THW. The advance angle at the ignition timing is calculated larger as the fuel cut execution time is longer and as the engine water temperature THW is lower. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
