PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high-basis-weight ultrafine filament nonwoven fabric for artificial leather by which variation in basis weight is suppressed in the method for producing the ultrafine filament nonwoven fabric by a needle punching method. SOLUTION: The method for producing the ultrafine filament nonwoven fabric includes spinning conjugated fibers separable and splittable into ultrafine fibers, drafting the resultant fibers at a high speed, collecting the resultant fibers on a net, heat-treating the resultant thin-layer fiber sheet with an embossing calender, laminating two or more sheets, and then carrying out a needle punching entanglement into ultrafine fibers in this order. In the method for producing the ultrafine filament nonwoven fabric, following requirements are satisfied: (a) one thin layer fiber sheet has a basis weight of 20-45 g/m<SP>2</SP>, and (b) the thin layer fiber sheet after the embossing calender treatment has a bending resistance value of 3-6 cm.
