PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator capable of easily adjusting the balance of a car with simple structure, and improving work efficiency in installation work of the car and working safety of a worker. SOLUTION: The elevator comprises a car frame 3a to which the car 3 elevating in a hoistway 6 is mounted, a car sheave mounting beam 3c mounting a car sheave 3d around which wire rope 2 is looped, a supporting material 8 coupling the car frame 3a and the car sheave mounting beam 3c, a moving device 9 changing a position of the supporting material 8 between the car frame 3a and the car sheave mounting beams 3c, a hoisting machine 5 feeding the wire rope 2 to elevate the car 3, and a counterweight 4 coupled to the wire rope 2 looped around the hoisting machine 5.
