<p>A method and a system using a helicoidal structure wound out of a plurality of metallic wires (114) into a universal connector (100) for reversibly coupling a distal end portion (206) of an extension wire (200) to a proximal end portion (306) of a guidewire (300). The universal connector is configured for receiving the proximal end portion of the guidewire into the interior of the connector (124) and is made as a single-piece unit built to sustain increased separation forces tending to disconnect the extension wire from the guidewire. The universal connector accommodates coupling to different configurations of commercially available guidewire proximal terminations.</p> |
