<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell with a seal structure having high gas sealing performance even when a conventional machining error (variations) exists in a gasket, while providing a gas for a membrane electrode assembly with no path-cut. <P>SOLUTION: A gasket 5 is provided at the peripheral edge of the membrane electrode assembly. It has a first sealing protrusion 51 formed around a manifold 6 and a cutout 31 formed in the end of a gas flow path layer 3. At the end of the gasket 5, one or more second sealing protrusion 52 is provided which closes the cutout 31 and which is protruded from the surface of the gas flow path layer 3 up to a level the same as or lower than the first sealing protrusion 51. A separator 4 abuts on the gas flow path layer 3 in the attitude of crushing the first sealing protrusion 51 and the second sealing protrusion 52.
