<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell efficiently using reaction gas for well improving power generating performance while preventing the deterioration of the peripheral edge of a polymer electrolyte membrane. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell includes an electrolyte layer-electrode assembly 5 with an electrolyte layer 1 and a pair of electrodes 4a, 4b clamping a portion inward of the peripheral edge of the electrolyte layer 1, a pair of annular gaskets 6a, 6b arranged to encircle the electrodes 4a, 4b of the electrolyte layer-electrode assembly 5, and a pair of conductive separators 7a, 7b plate-shaped and arranged to clamp the electrolyte layer-electrode assembly 5 and the gaskets 6a, 6b, and having trench-shaped reaction gas flow paths 8, 9 formed on one main face abutting on the electrodes 4a, 4b where the reaction gas flows. In at least one of the pair of gaskets 6a, 6b, a gasket flow path 31 is provided which is communicated with the reaction gas flow paths 8, 9 so that the reaction gas flows in the peripheral edge of the electrolyte layer 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
