PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure work surface illumination directly, even under a lighting-failed lighting fixture, despite the failed lighting of the lighting fixture to be lit, in an illumination system having a plurality of lighting fixtures. SOLUTION: The illumination system 1 comprises the plurality of lighting fixtures 10, each having an illumination load 11;a human-sensitive sensor 12, a luminance sensor 13, and a control section 14 for controlling light output of the illumination load 11;a communication control section 15 for data-transmitting data between the lighting fixtures 10;and a failed lighting detection means for detecting failed lighting of the lighting fixture 10 be lit. The lighting fixture 10 to be lit, in which the failed lighting is detected data-transmits the data including illumination detected by the illumination sensor 13 to the other lighting fixture via the communication control section 15, and the other lighting fixture, arranged in the vicinity of the lighting-failed lighting fixture 10 controls the light output of the illumination load so as to make the data-transmitted illumination become a target value.
