PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a security function with high safety without providing an expensive authentication system, and to easily change security level. SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus includes a function of outputting to the outside or holding an image read by a reader and enables/disables the function. At least one image selected from among images read by the reader is registered as a password image, an image read again by the reader is collated with the password, and the function for outputting to the outside or holding the image is enabled or disabled.
