PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine having good startability at low temperatures. SOLUTION: This engine is provided with; a rotation speed sensor 23; a temperature sensor (water temperature sensor) 25; a start switch (key switch 24); a starter 10; and an engine control device 20 sending an operation signal to the starter 10 and making the starter 10 drive and rotate a crankshaft 10 when a start signal from the key switch 24 is received, and stopping rotation drive of the crankshaft 19 by the starter 10 by sending a stop signal to the starter 10 when temperature of an engine main body 70 when the start signal from the key switch 24 is received is not higher than a predetermined threshold (temperature (C)) and average rotation speed per prescribed time of the crankshaft 19 is not less than a predetermined engine start rotation speed (R2) when the starter is driving and rotating the crankshaft 19.
