<p>This invention provides a phase difference film, which is durable to an environmental change and causes no significant unevenness in alignment of a liquid crystal layer, and a polarizing plate and a liquid crystal display device using the phase difference film. The phase difference film comprises an optically biaxial transparent film (X), an optically anisotropic layer (Z), in which rod-like liquid crystals are perpendicularly aligned and fixed, and an isotropic layer (Y) provided between the biaxial transparent film and the optically anisotropic layer. The phase difference film is characterized in that the tensile elastic moduli of the optically biaxial transparent film (X), the isotropic layer (Y), and the optically anisotropic layer (Z) at 50°C, that is, e(x), e(y), and e(z), simultaneously satisfy the following relationships. (1) 300 MPa < e(y) < 2700 MPa (2) -950 MPa < e(x) - e(y) < 3500 MPa (3) 2000 MPa < e(z) - e(y) < 5000 MPa wherein e(x) and e(y) are each an average of the value in the parallel direction and the value in the orthogonal direction for an in-plane slow phase axis in the film and each of the layers.</p> |
