An adjustable bed ( 10) includes an articulated deck (70) comprising head, seat, leg and f oot deck boards (74, 76, 78, 80) hingedly joined together and supported f rom a frame (32) located above a stationary base ( 1 4). An intermediate cushioning layer, including a pocketed coil spring assembly (1 30), is secured to the deck boards (74, 76, 78, 80). A mattress ( 1 2) or similar structure resides on top of the intermediate cushioning layer.
