PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an observation device and an observation method detecting an image feature amount of a cell coverage or the like in a short time. SOLUTION: This observation device 1 includes: at least two imaging optical systems 11, 21 different in magnifications picking up an image of an observing object; a control means 16 calculating a reference value of a low-magnification image, to make the image feature amount in a prescribed area found in a high-magnification image of the imaging optical system of high magnification, substantially equal to the image feature amount in the prescribed area found in a low-magnification image picked up simultaneously by the imaging optical system of low magnification; an image processing means 18 processing over the whole low-magnification image, based on the reference value; and a display means 17 displaying a processed result of the low-magnification image processed by the image processing means.
