PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element having a stable diffraction efficiency in respective use wavelength regions over the entire visible ranges of a diffraction optical element. SOLUTION: The optical element is prepared by using an optical material which comprises: a binder component (A) having at least one of a monomer and an oligomer of fluorine type or silicone type having a polymerizable functional group in a molecule; metal oxide fine particles (B); and a polymerization initiator (C), and has a refractive index (nd) of 1.32<nd<1.53, an Abbe number (νd) of 14<νd<35 and a second-order dispersion characteristic (θg, F) of 0.34<θg, F<0.47, whereby the partial deterioration of efficiency due to wavelength does not occur, the diffraction efficiency of the respective use wavelength regions over the entire visible ranges is improved and the color aberration is more accurately corrected.
