1,198,724. Polyhydroxyamide oxazoline derivatives of maleinized oils or acids. PAN AMERICAN TUNG RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE. 21 Sept., 1967 [2 Feb., 1967], No. 43005/67. Heading C2C. [Also in in Divisions C4 and C7] A film-forming material comprises the product of a Diels-Alder reaction between an α,#- unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or anhydride and an unsaturated oil or acid containing conjugated double bonds, said product having (a) a polyhydroxyamide group derived from a polyhydroxyamine containing a 1-hydroxy-2-aminoalkyl group and a carboxyl group of the α,#- unsaturated acid, and occupying the site of said carboxyl group, and (b) an oxazoline ring derived from the same polyhydroxy amine and the other carboxyl group of the α,#-unsaturated acid and occupying the site of said other carboxyl group. In examples, tung oil/fumaric acid, oiticica oil/fumaric acid and tung oil/ maleic anhydride adducts are reacted at 150‹ C. with tris-(hydroxymethyl) aminomethane, and tung oil/fumaric acid adduct is heated with 2-amino-2-methyl-1 : 3 propanediol. The products are dissolved in water and used with pigments as electrodeposition paints. |
