PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the operation in a discontinuous mode in an optimal and efficient manner, in a boosting DC-DC converter (booster). SOLUTION: A control section 12 includes, in addition to a PWM control circuit for conforming the output voltage V<SB>0</SB>of a booster core section 10 to the reference voltage V<SB>ref</SB>, an on-period monitoring circuit 56 consisting of a logic gate circuit 42 and RS-FF 44, a comparator 46, a current monitoring circuit 58 consisting of RS-FF 48 and D-FF 50, and an on-period upper limit control circuit 60 consisting of a logic gate circuit 52 and an N-bit counter 54.
