PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone directory search function of preferentially displaying names having numbers and symbols added as initial thereof in full-text search, and retrieving and displaying the original names excluding the numbers and symbols added as the initials in time-saving search. SOLUTION: When an operation input key 30 is operated, a full text search/time-saving search decision means 145 decides which of full-text search and time-saving search the operation is for. When the operation is full-text search operation, a full-text search means 130 rearranges names in increasing or decreasing order by reference to characters of high-order digits of the names in a telephone directory database 120, and displays them on a display means 20. When the operation is time-saving search operation, a time-saving search means 140 extracts names having predetermined characters in high-order digits by reference to characters in high-order digits of names in the telephone directory database 120, and names having predetermined characters other than the numbers and symbols by reference to following digits in order when the names use the numbers and symbols as characters of high-order digits, and rearranges and displays them on the display means 20.
