PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that measures taken when a recording head is added in a direction orthogonal to a nozzle arrangement direction, for making printing resolution in the nozzle arrangement direction higher, become complicated. SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus, a plurality of recording head units 10 in which a plurality of heads 100 having a plurality of nozzles discharging liquid droplets are arranged in the nozzle arrangement direction, a plurality of head control boards 11 provided with a plurality of head control circuits 112 driving and controlling the heads 100 of the respective recording head units 10 and image data storage memories 113 corresponding to the respective head control circuits 112, are arranged in the direction orthogonal to the nozzle arrangement direction. Each of the head control boards 11 is provided with a rotary switch 111 for setting intrinsic identification ID, the set identification ID is transmitted to an information processor 300 through a USB, and the information processor 300 recognizes each of the head control boards 11 as one USB equipment respectively and transfers image data.
