PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-bladed whetstone with a long service life and capable of keeping good cutting performance for a long time. SOLUTION: Abrasive grains 2 are diffused in a metallic binder 3 made of Ni, and a Cu-plated layer 4 with a thickness not exceeding a protrusion amount of the abrasive grains from the metallic binder is formed on the surface of the binder 3. The soft Cu-plated layer 4 can serve as a shock-absorbing layer when the abrasive grains 2 collide against a workpiece thereby reducing damage of the workpiece and also preventing the workpiece from being chipped. In addition, since the Cu-plated layer 4 is excellent in wear resistance, abrasion speed of both side faces equipped with the Cu-plated layer can be reduced to attain a long service life.
