PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation image information reader that efficiently reads radiation image information and its control method. SOLUTION: If a high-speed reading mode is selected when a carrier carrying the reader is movable, the reading resolution of radiation image information is set up at low (the second resolution) in a scanning unit in order to read the radiation image information with a high speed (Step S3) on one hand, and if a normal reading mode is selected when the carrier stops, the low reading resolution changes into a high-speed one (the first resolution) in the scanning unit in order to read the radiation image information with a low speed (Step S4) on the other hand.
