1,261,491. Woven or braided fabrics. TUDOR AB. 13 Feb., 1970 [14 April, 1969], No. 6982/70. Heading D1K. [Also in Division H1] An electrode sheath comprises a woven or braided fabric of glass fibre yarns 1 with at least some of the stem threads 2 in a braided fabric (or warp threads in a woven fabric) being formed of mixed yarn comprising glass and thermoplastic fibres, the latter being more highly twisted than the former. The glass fibres in the mixed threads 2 may be untwisted or slightly twisted and the corresponding thermoplastic fibres, e.g. of polyethylene or polypropylene, are slightly twisted or highly twisted. The thermoplastic material is softened, e.g. by heating to 190‹C, to make it bond to the intersecting glass fibre threads. The sheath may be stiffened by dressing with polyvinyl alcohol, starch, or dextrin. |
