<p>Foil and strip from 0.5 to 3 mm. thick are held down firmly on the bed of a machine by two rolls or discs, one on either side of the working tools. The tool is in the form of a disc with a hard cutting tip mounted on its periphery and is rotated while the workpiece is moved relatively slowly in the opposite direction. The rollers prevent contact of the tool with the strip during its approach to the working point, and they can be used to control the depth of penetration. The device can be used on both ferrous and non-ferrous materials and plastics, and may be applied to other forms of machine tools such as flat bed planers.</p> |
