<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having high contrast. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel 6, a backlight 4 disposed on the back of the liquid crystal panel 6 while having a light source 3 on at least one side of a light guide plate 2, a light source driver 5 to drive the light source 3 of the backlight 4, and a processing circuit 8 which processes a video signal and outputs light source control information to the light source driver 5. The light guide plate 2 is divided into a plurality of blocks 2a-2j having light sources 3.
