PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device and control method of a damping force variable damper for suppressing the roll of a vehicle body in lane change or the like. SOLUTION: When a determination at the step S13 is No since an absolute value of a lateral acceleration derivative value Gy' is increased at a latter stage of the lane change (that is, the lateral acceleration derivative value Gy' moves to a straight transfer determination region), a roll calculation control part 56 makes a straight transfer flag Fst 1 at the step S18, and retrieves/sets a first roll damping force base value Dbr1 using a second line L2 of a lateral acceleration-damping force map at the step S19.
