MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a discrete track medium and a bit pattern medium for achieving both of improved recording/reproducing characteristics and reliability. SOLUTION: A magnetic recording layer made of at least two layers of ferromagnetic alloy layers 18, 19 of different compositions is provided on a substrate. The ferroelectric alloy layer 19 positioned at the uppermost surface side of a medium has a part 23 having a high content of nonmagnetic atoms in an in-plane direction and a part having a low content thereof; and in the part having a high content of nonmagnetic atoms, the content of nonmagnetic atoms is increased compared with other parts excluding an intermediate layer in the magnetic recording layer. Parts having high and low contents of nonmagnetic atoms in the ferromagnetic alloy layer positioned at the uppermost surface side of the medium are formed nearly concentric. The part having a high content of nonmagnetic atoms is formed by performing ion implantation of nonmagnetic atoms 22. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
