PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of lateral stripe-like nozzle of a projection image as well as the occurrence of flicker in a liquid crystal projector that uses, as a light source, a lamp that is AC driven. SOLUTION: The projector includes: a projector control section that outputs a panel drive vertical synchronous signal for determining a vertical blanking period for a liquid crystal panel; a lamp current generating section that inputs a panel drive vertical synchronous signal and, based on the panel drive vertical synchronous signal, generates an AC current increased for a predetermined pulse period; and a video correcting section by which a video signal indicating a video to be displayed on the liquid crystal panel and a panel drive vertical synchronous signal are input, and the luminance of the input video signal is decreased by a predetermined amount for the pulse period based on the input timing of the panel drive vertical synchronous signal.
