PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spiral membrane element which can reduce the residues of a pollutant. SOLUTION: This spiral membrane element is of such a structure that a separation membrane, a supply side flow path material (10) and a permeation-side flow path material, are singly or plurally wound around a porous hollow center pipe (15). The supply side flow path material (10) is constructed of a first thread (11) arranged obliquely to the axial direction of the hollow center pipe (15) and a second thread (12) crossing the first thread (11). Further, the diameter X of the first thread (11) in the perpendicular direction to the flow surface of a supply liquid (13), is larger than the diameter Y of the second thread (12) in the perpendicular direction to the flow surface of the supply liquid (13).
