[Class 120 (ii)] [Also in Group XXV] In apparatus for the manufacture of composite yam by associating an inelastic yam with an elastic yam, the elastic yam after leaving the supply is passed more than one turn around a revolving roller, pulley or shaft having a surface with a low coefficient of friction e.g., smooth or polished, before it is associated with the inelastic thread the roller &c. rotating at a high speed which is greater than the speed at which, and in the same direction as that in which, the elastic yam passes around it ; the composite yam is then wound up by receiving means. Guides may be provided to prevent the turns of yarn around the roller from overlapping. As shown the elastic yarn 1 from a supply bobbin 2 is passed several times around the rotating conical roller 5 which has its taper directed vertically and guide eyes 6 space the turns of yarn on the roller. From the roller the elastic yarn passes through the hollow spindle of the inelastic yarn supply bobbin 7 to become associated therewith, the composite yarn 4 being wound up on a bobbin 3. In a modification the elastic yarn is fed downward from its supply bobbin and is passed several times around a cylindrical rotating roller which is arranged horizontally.
