526,423. Bearings for spinning and twisting machine spindles. STAUFERT, C. March 1, 1939, No. 6715. [Class 12 (i)] A step bearing for spinning and twisting machine spindles in which the whole of the bearing system is below the point of application of the driving power to the spindle comprises a flat bearing surface to take the axial thrust and an independently movable radially resilient collar bearing. As shown, the collar bearing has rollers 6 in a casing 5 with resilient studs 9 bearing against the inside of the casing 2. The end of the spindle 3 bears on a ball 11 carried with clearance in the bearing bore 10 and bearing on a spring pressed plate 14. Fixed pins 18 secure the plate 14 and loosely engage the casing 5. In a modification, a plate 21 is fixed in the casing 2, and a spring urged member 22 engages the thrust ball 11. In this construction a flange 33 on an upper collar bearing is loosely coupled to the casing 5 by a wire 36 engaging slots 34, 35 in the two parts.
