PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that even when using recording mediums different in thickness and rigidity, uniformly suppresses "transfer blur on a rear end of the recording medium". SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a abutting member 14 which abuts on the internal circumferential surface of a belt member 8 upstream of a nip part N formed by a secondary transfer roller 19 and a secondary transfer counter roller 12B to thereby stretch the belt member 8; a guide member 30 which is disposed between the belt member 8 and a recording medium P conveyed up to the position of the nip N from the position of a resist roller 28 and guides the recording medium P; and varying means 60 and 65 for varying the posture of the guide member 30.
