PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeder capable of stably feeding a sheet, regardless of the rigidity of the sheet, with excellent economical efficiency. SOLUTION: This sheet feeder includes a sheet feeding tray 1 for stacking the sheet S and storing the sheet S, a sheet feeding roller 5 for advancing the sheet S1 of an uppermost layer stored in the sheet feeding tray 1 by abutting on the sheet S1 and rotating, a separating plate 2 arranged in front of an advancing direction of the sheet S1 in the uppermost layer and formed with an oblique surface inclined in the advancing direction, and a separation auxiliary member 3 arranged along the oblique surface of the separating plate 2 to operate by force received during abutting of the sheet S1 in the uppermost layer. The separation auxiliary member 3 includes a rotary shaft 3c parallel to the oblique surface of the separating plate 2 and a first resistance part 3a to be rotated and moved with the rotary shaft 3c at the center from the initial position where the first resistance part 3a has a higher friction coefficient than that of the oblique surface and projects in relation to the oblique surface as the force is increased and a burying position where the first resistance part 3a buries in relation to the oblique surface.
