摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine and a method for controlling the same which are capable of improving the problem of the response lag of supercharging at transition of the turbo and utilizing the merit of the turbo supercharging in an internal combustion engine equipped with a turbo supercharging system, resulting in achievement of improvement in power performance, exhaust performance and fuel economy of the engine. SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine is provided with a mechanical supercharger 19, in an air supply path, driven via a clutch by the power of the internal combustion engine 1 in addition to the turbo supercharging system, has a check valve which permits the flow of air A to an air intake manifold 10a side, and is provided with a bypass path 20 which bypasses the mechanical supercharger 19, wherein, when the supercharging pressure and the amount of intake air is smaller than each target value calculated based on the engine rotation number and fuel injection amount of the internal combustion engine 1, supercharging is performed by the mechanical supercharger 19 by connecting the clutch so that each measured value is increased to each target value.
