The method involves detecting a position indication, and assigning momentary position indication of a current position of an electrically actuatable flap (2) after reaching a predefined position of the flap. The movement of the flap toward an open position is limited to a predetermined maximum open position. The momentary position indication of a provisional maximum open position is assigned after an application of energy supply to a flap system and before reaching the predefined position. The movement of the flap toward the open position is limited to the provisional maximum open position. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for operating an electrically actuatable flap of a flap system (2) a computer program product comprising a set of instructions for implementing a method operating an electrically actuatable flap of a flap system.
