PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve durability of a camless engine. SOLUTION: In the camless engine 1, when the engine is stopped, a piston of a desired cylinder out of a plurality of cylinders is positioned within a preset target range in a bottom dead center side, and when the engine is started, fuel is first injected into the desired cylinder. Thus, the engine 1 can be started with an optimal phase, and startup time for the engine 1 can be reduced. Accordingly a load on a starter motor and a battery can be reduced, and service life thereof can be prolonged, which leads to improvement of the durability of the camless engine 1.
