PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure a vertical guide position, by measuring the position of a wire electrode on the horizontal coordinate axis of a lower guide in a vertical state and an optional inclined state of the wire electrode by using a round bar tool of a complete round shape. SOLUTION: In this vertical guide position measuring method, the wire electrode 1 is brought into point contact with a circumferential surface 5 of the round bar tool 4 in the vertical state and the inclined state to a table upper surface 11, to measure respective positions of the wire electrode 1 in a horizontal coordinate surface 13 of the lower guide 3. When measuring the respective positions, a distance DB between an upper guide 2 and the lower guide 3 being a distance in the vertical direction to the table upper surface 11 and a distance DA up to the table upper surface 11 and the lower guide 3, can be measured based on a similar right-angled triangle having an inclination θ of the inclined state formed of the wire electrode 1, a round bar tool diameter R, the horizonal coordinate axes 12 of the upper guide 2 and the horizontal coordinate axes 13 of the lower guide 3.
