The system has a selectable number of heating modules (4) externally attachable to a tank container (2) and independent of each other, where the heating modules are designed homogeneously. One of the heating modules includes a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) element (6) designed as a PTC foil. A metallic foil (10) is provided between the PTC element and the tank container. A thermal insulation layer (8) is provided on a side of the PTC-element turned away from the tank container. The heating modules are partially coated with a plastic layer (12). An independent claim is also included for a tank container for a motor vehicle having a modular heating system.
