METHOD FOR APPROXIMATING USER TASK REPRESENTATIONS BY DOCUMENT-USAGE CLUSTERING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use document-usage footprints to estimate a user task.

SOLUTION: The system that detects the user task receives multiple documents during operation and applies a clustering technique to the document-usage footprints of the documents to generate user task representation (304 and 310). The document-usage footprints of each document are calculated based on access frequency to other documents within one or more predetermined time. The system further calculates an average dwell time to at least one document (306). The dwell time to access the documents is calculated by subtracting an idling time from an active time of the documents. The clustering technique is applied to the documents whose average dwell time exceeds a predetermined threshold (308 and 310).
