PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a papermaking method for producing paper and paperboard and having improved yield and productivity. SOLUTION: A part of a main papermaking stock flow passed through a final screen before papermaking process is used as a bypass flow, the bypass flow is divided into two flows, one or more papermaking chemicals are mixed with these two divided flows by a mixing means, the mixture is returned to a point of the main papermaking stock flow to add and mix the papermaking chemicals, and the papermaking stock is subjected to papermaking process, wherein the papermaking chemicals suitable for the papermaking process is a water-in-oil polymer emulsion containing a polymer having hydrophilic and hydrophobic structure units and produced by emulsifying a water-phase containing a water-soluble vinyl monomer and an oil phase comprising a hydrocarbon solvent with an emulsifier and polymerizing the emulsion.
