PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a virtual disk, without depending on a host PC, to manage the virtual disk by means of easy operation. SOLUTION: A recording and reproducing apparatus has a CPU 100, a memory 101, a storage I/F 102, an external I/F 103, a device port (DP)-control part 201, a virtual device port (VDP)-control part 202, a virtual serial ATA 601, a virtual ATAPI 602, and two or more recording and reproducing devices. The recording and reproducing apparatus notifies a HOSTPC that a device is connected to a device port when a virtual disk is generated, and disconnects the virtual disk and deletes the corresponding information when an instruction for removal or ejection is given by the HOSTPC.
