PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having a backlight unit including a plurality of surface light sources with controllable luminous energy, disposed in the back of a liquid crystal panel, in which the backlight can be optimally controlled for low power consumption upon displaying a reduced image in accordance with the display position or the size of the reduced image. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a back light unit having a plurality of surface light sources each individually controllable for the luminous energy, disposed on a back of a liquid crystal panel, wherein upon displaying a reduced image, the image is moved or reduced by considering the size of the surface light source and a boundary between adjoining surface light sources.
