The invention relates to a device for generating chalcopyrite absorber layers in solar cells, and an associated method. The device comprises the following components to this end: a sealingly closable reaction box for receiving a substrate coated with at least one precursor coating; a source of sulfur and/or selenium for providing a sulfur and/or selenium vapor at a predefinable temperature and pressure; and a docking system designed for temporarily connecting the reaction box to the sulfur and/or selenium source.
