The exchanger (09) has an exchanger unit allowing flow of a heat transfer medium (06) and partially surrounded by another heat transfer medium i.e. exhaust gas (08), in operating condition. An ultrasonic excitation device (52) is installed within a region of an inlet of the heat transfer medium, where the inlet is arranged at a housing of the exchanger. The coat area of the exchanger is partially filled with a cleaning medium in cleaning condition, where the cleaning medium is moved by the excitation device.
