PURPOSE: A light emitting device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve light extraction efficiency on the upper side of a semiconductor layer by removing a pad on the semiconductor layer. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of compound semiconductor layers include a first conductive semiconductor layer(110), an active layer(120), and a second conductive semiconductor layer(130). A contact layer(140) is formed under the plurality of compound semiconductor layers. A junction layer(145) is formed under the contact layer. A substrate(150) is formed under the junction layer. A first insulation layer(160) insulates from a first electrode(173) and the second conductive semiconductor layer to the junction layer.
