摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly control dispersion compensation without deteriorating communication quality by efficiently controlling the amount of compensation in dispersion compensation in a proper direction. <P>SOLUTION: A TODC 134 performs dispersion compensation of an optical signal to be received by a variable amount of compensation. An optical coupler 133 branches the optical signal. A fixed DC 135 for monitoring performs dispersion compensation of the optical signal branched by the optical coupler 133 by an excessively small or large compensation amount with respect to the amount of dispersion in the optical signal. An optical receiver 136 for monitoring monitors the communication quality of the optical signal dispersion-compensated by the fixed DC 135 for monitoring. A control unit 137 determines an increase/decrease direction of the amount of dispersion based on an increase/decrease direction of communication quality monitored by the optical receiver 136 for monitoring.
