<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve both high usability of an image forming apparatus and a reduction in power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a first power-saving operation mode in which the operation of an engine control unit is stopped; and a second power-saving operation mode in which power supply to a controller is stopped. In a state that the image forming apparatus has been shifted to the first power-saving operation mode, whether the image forming apparatus is shifted to a normal operation mode by using the controller is determined according to signals from a power switch, signals from a sensor or return signals from the controller.
