PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To heighten reliability of an analysis result in an automatic analyzer. SOLUTION: Steam generated in a steam generation device 30 is discharged into a reaction cell from a steam cleaning nozzle 202 having a cover 200a for covering an opening the reaction cell 10 to perform the cleaning, and a temperature of the reaction cell is monitored thereafter. Hereby, dirt adhering onto an inner wall of the reaction cell is washed away completely by high-temperature high-pressure steam, to improve a cleaning effect. Consequently, a function of a protein or enzyme of a sample subjected to the former analysis is vanished in the reaction cell to be reused, and reliability of an analysis result can be heightened, and a using amount of a detergent can be reduced. If the temperature of the reaction cell after steam cleaning is unusually high, the reaction cell is not reused, to thereby prevent beforehand generation of an error in the analysis result.
